Caroline Wilson reacts to Gil McLachlan stepping down from the AFL’s top job

AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan is set to step down from the role after eight years.
Veteran AFL reporter Caroline Wilson believes he stayed in the game’s top job “longer than even he intended”.
“When the pandemic started the thought was that Gillon would probably step down at the end of that year, at the end of 2020,” she told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell.
“Gillon did the right thing not to step away during the pandemic,” she told Tony Jones.
Caro expects he’ll stay in the role until the end of the season.
“I can’t tell you whether he will step away immediately but I’m told he had committed to stay until the end of the season and that is my understanding. I don’t believe that has changed.”
