Caroline Wilson’s best and worst off-field performers in the AFL for 2017
Caroline Wilson has revealed her best and worst off-field performers for season 2017.
The leading football journalist explained her selections on Sportsday.
Coaches and players are ineligible.
- Peggy O’Neal (Richmond president) “She overcame challenges last year. She was under the pump. She was the frontwoman of what the football club achieved this year. Brendon Gale also clearly deserves a big tick.”
- Richard Goyder (AFL chairman) “He stood firm on AFL cultural issues in the middle of the year and led the charge to keep the bounce.”
- Xavier Campbell (Essendon CEO) “The reasons are obvious. He’s been unbelievable.”
Andrew Fagan, Brian Cook, Josh Vanderloo, Daniel Richardson, Wayne Campbell, Keith Thomas, Paul Marsh, Paul Connors and Bruce McAvaney also rated mentions.
“Apologies to Mrs Hardwick,” Caroline said.
But it wasn’t all backslapping!
Caro also listed her worst off-field performers for the year.
She said Richard Garvey “didn’t have a great year” and Peter Gordon from the Bulldogs also took a massive hit after finishing top-two on her list last year.
Mark LoGiudice and Gary Pert were also mentioned as poor performers in 2017.
