Car insurance increase in “high-risk” areas west of Melbourne
A single mum has told 3AW she’s been slogged an $300 extra a year for car insurance just for moving suburbs.
Sonia told Tom Elliott she moved from Diamond Creek to Caroline Springs, only to find her car insurance had increased dramatically, because her new suburb is deemed a high-risk crime area.
“When I got my car insurance renewal last week, it’s actually gone up from $528 to $830,” she said.
“I received no letter, no notification that it would be going up.
“They said it’s a high-risk crime area and that’s affected my policy.”
