Police officer seriously injured in shopping centre car park ramming
A police officer has been injured after a pair in an allegedly stolen car drove into police in a Melbourne shopping centre car park.
Witness Chris told Dee Dee a silver Honda drove into three police cars blocking a down ramp at Westfield in Airport West just before midday.
“All of a sudden this car comes driving down the ramp and tries to ram though the cop cars,” he said.
“It was unsuccessful and kind of hit a couple of cops in doing so, then they reversed again and then tried to ram through the middle of the two cop cars again.
A detective acting sergeant has been taken to hospital with a serious leg injury after the ramming.
Chris says a third police car drove behind the Honda and boxed it in, then police arrested two occupants in the vehicle.
“After that seven or eight cops jumped on the car and after that seven or eight cops jumped on the car and tried to smash the windows and pull them out,” he said.
A man and woman have been arrested.
The arrests come after police were called to reports of a suspicious vehicle in the car park.
It’s believed the pair were involved in a smash and grab burglary at a computer store in Millers Road, Altona North early this morning.
