Cameron Ling admits Geelong has taken a risk at the trade table
Geelong great Cameron Ling admits his former club has taken a risk during this year’s trade period.
The Cats have traded away several key draft picks over the next two years to land the likes of Patrick Dangerfield, Lachie Henderson, Scott Selwood and ruckman Zac Smith.
The 2011 premiership captain said on 3AW the club had definitely recruited for the ‘now’ by topping up their list with players aged in their mid-20s
‘They’ve made some decisions to be stronger in those ages where you’re supposedly in your prime,’ Ling said on Sports Today.
‘That’s smart and that’s good ? if it all works.
‘That’s the big if.
‘If it doesn’t work ? fingers crossed it does work, being a Cats’ supporter ? but if it doesn’t work they’ve given up a first and second round pick this year and first round pick next year.
‘It means they’re not going to get that top-end young talent coming through, which is a worry for down the track.’
