Victims of Crime Commissioner, Fiona McCormack, has called for the justice system to be looked at more closely to support those who have been affected by criminal acts.

It comes after serial killer Paul Denyer, who murdered three women in 1993, launched his bid for freedom today with his fate to be decided by a parole board.

“This is so fundamental to victims to have their voices heard,” Ms McCormack told Heidi Murphy, filling in for Tom Elliott.

The parents of Natalie Russell, one of Denyer’s murder victims, in Brian and Carmel Russell claim they’ve been left in the dark with his eligibility for release, and haven’t heard anything from the Department of Justice since last November.

They spoke to Neil Mitchell back in 2021 and expressed their concerns if Denyer ever was to be released.

No date or time has been set for the parole board hearing.
