Broadcasting legend Bruce McAvaney has admitted he’s found Dustin Martin’s gradual on-field decline difficult to watch.

Martin is now widely tipped to reverse a decision to retire and play on at Gold Coast in 2025, having ended his glittering career at Richmond.

McAvaney, who is returning to host both preliminary finals this weekend for Channel 7, said he only wanted to see Martin play again if he was capable to finding some of the form which has made him one of the game’s greatest ever players.

“I’d only like to see him go again if he gets back somewhere where he was,” he said on Wide World of Sports.

“It has been hard to watch (him play this season).”
