Bruce Eva explains why Essendon should replace Collingwood on Queen’s Birthday
Bruce Eva says Essendon should replace Collingwood in the annual Queen’s Birthday match.
And the rest of the 3AW Football commentary team found his argument hard to disagree with.
The match has now become synonymous with Neale Daniher and the Freeze MND campaign.
Beva said it’d be only fitting if it was the Bombers and Demons – Daniher’s two clubs – who honoured the cause moving forward.
Collingwood and Melbourne have played against each other on the Queen’s Birthday every year since 2001.
But it happened “just eight times” in the 42 years beforehand, with other clubs sharing the day.
“That’s hardly traditional,” Beva said on 3AW Football.
