Body found in Barwon River identified, but cause of death remains mystery

A woman found dead in Barwon River last month has been identified, but the cause of her death remains a mystery.

Two rowers made the grim find on the Barwon River near James Harrison Ridge at Newtown about 6pm on Friday August 31.

Police have since confirmed the identity of the deceased as 40-year-old Geelong West Woman Melanie Blogg.

However it’s still unclear how she died and whether her death is suspicious.

Investigators want to speak with anyone who may have made contact with Ms Blogg from the 16th of August.

They’re also releasing CCTV footage of her in Geelong West on the 17th of August wearing a big jumper and only one shoe.
