BLOG: 1st Test Australia vs Pakistan at the Gabba – Day 5

Australia has defeated Pakistan by 39 runs to take a 1 nil lead in the 3 match series.

In a gripping final day Asad Shafiq and Wahab Riaz looked to be tracking towards an incredible and historic victory.  Named Man of the Match, Shafiq innings of 137 drew acclaim from both sides of the contest for it’s fight and technique.  Shafiq ultimately lost his battle and the match was gone but not before restoring Pakistan’s reputation and raising the anticipation of what’s to come at the MCG in a week’s time.

It was a victory that could be described as both inevitable and unconvincing. With that type of sentiment Steve Smith would be thinking he can’t win but win he has.
