The Australian Human Rights Commission has terminated a claim against Hawthorn by former First Nations players and partners, concluding the two parties were too far apart in negotiating an outcome.

The Age Chief Football Reporter Jake Niall – who broke the story on Monday – has lifted the lid on why negotiations to end the long-running racism saga have broken down.

“There’s nothing to the individual and the footy club getting together and negotiating (an outcome),” he said on 3AW Drive.

“But the big sticking point is the players and partners wanted an explicit admission from Hawthorn of racism and Hawthorn is not willing to give that.”
