A Victorian Government spokesperson has since released the following statement regarding the matter:
“We’re providing more support than ever for local governments to deliver high quality kindergarten services to their local communities – with our Free Kinder initiative giving services access to a secure and ongoing revenue stream while saving Victorian families money.
“Knox City Council’s decision to pull out from providing the majority of its kindergarten services from 2025 is a disappointing one, but it is a matter for them.
‘The Department of Education will work with Knox City Council as they work to appoint a new provider to ensure local families can continue to access a high-quality kindergarten program.”
