Ban lifted: There’s been a noticeable Victoria Police rule change
A noticeable change had come to Victoria’s police force — police officers can now wear a beard.
Secretary of the Victorian Police Association, Wayne Gatt, says the change came in last Friday.
Officers can now have a full face beard which does not exceed 20mm in length.
“We haven’t had beards, they came in and they went out but they’re back again. This really just brings us up to speed with everyone else, to be honest,” he told Ross and Russel.
“I think you’ll find that once upon a time it was a mandatory requirement for police to have a beard!”
Moustaches have been permitted since the ’70s, but goatees are not allowed.
