Avalanche warning for the Victorian alps
- Latest information from VicEmergency here
An avalanche warning has been issued for the state’s Alpine region today.
Ross and John spoke with Inspector Paul Hargreaves, Emergency Management for the Hume region, on the show this morning.
“We can’t guarantee people’s safety who venture out into these areas,” said Inspector Hargreaves.
“It’s too high a risk for people to be in at this time of year.
“We are urging people, don’t venture into these areas.”
But Mt Hotham Ski patrol director Bill Barker said the resort was looking bright and clear this morning, with roads about to re-open.
“We’ve 112cm in the last three days,” Barker said.
“The storm has cleared up here.”
The snowfall has prompted prompted authorities to carry out controlled avalanches on the alps, and issue an avalanche warning with more mild conditions together with strong winds expected to increase the risk of avalanches today.
