The senator who called for comedy rock duo Tenacious D to be deported after one band member made a joke about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump says the comments were “disgusting and evil”.

The band cancelled the remainder of their tour in Australia following a controversial comment from Kyle Gass at a concert in Sydney, with United Australia senator Ralph Babet telling 3AW Afternoons he believed the remark was anything but a joke.

“I don’t think it was a joke at all,” Mr Babet told Tony Moclair.

“In my opinion, this man was deadly serious. It’s appalling, it’s disgusting and it’s evil. I will not stand for people like this.”
