Australian Medical Association ramps up push for sugar tax on soft drink

The Australian Medical Association is ramping up its long-standing push for a sugar tax on soft drink.
Associate Professor Gary Sacks, fellow at the Global Obesity Centre at Deakin University, said there was no doubt it would work.
“We have really strong evidence from the 50 countries that have put it in place that it does lead to people buying less sugary drinks and drinking more water,” he said on 3AW Mornings.
Professor Sacks said a 20 per cent tax would be “really effective”.
