Australian Grand Prix fast tracked to avoid AFL season
The 2019 Australian Grand Prix has been brought forward by one week and will now be held over March 14-17.
Andrew Westacott, CEO of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, told 3AW Breakfast the date was changed to benefit sports fans and avoid a clash with round one of the AFL season.
“People can come along and see Daniel Riccardo and the supercars, which is a championship round,” he said.
“At the same time, go to the footy the following week.”
It comes after Formula One and the AFL have been competing for spectators on the same weekend for the past two years.
