The Sport Australia Hall of Fame is remembering Peter Thomson as one of the country’s greatest sportsmen.

The golfing legend died surrounded by his family after battling Parkinson’s disease for more than four years.

Thomson was the first Australian to win the British Open and went on to win it another four times.

He also served as president of the Australian PGA and was an inaugural Inductee in 1985 and was elevated to ”Legend” status in 2001.

Ross Greenwood speaks with Australian golfing aficionado Jack Newtown.

“He was a very good golfer, an astute talker and he would also sometimes be a bugger to play with!”
