Australian 1500m runner shocks world with one of fastest times ever weeks before Olympics
Australia 1500m runner Jess Hull has emerged as a realistic medal prospect in Paris after clocking one of the fastest times in history at a key lead-up event to the Olympics.
Hull posted a 3:50.83 at the Paris Diamond League meet – the fifth quickest time ever – and looked in disbelief after crossing the line behind Kenyan Faith Kipyegon, who broke the world record in the same race.
Nine athletics commentator Gerard Whateley told Shane McInnes he was “swept up” in the race, just weeks before the Olympics begin.

“It’s impossible not to be swept up in that (race),” Whateley said on The Olympics Today.
“Hull was a medal prospect anyway, but now she is right there.”
