Australia reopens to overseas tourists after more than 700 days
Dozens of international flights carrying tourists are touching down today, as Australia reopens its borders.
It’s been more than 700 days since overseas visitors were allowed into the country.
Federal Tourism Minister Dan Tehan said he expects “a really, really strong rebound” in tourism this year.
“We’ve seen very, very strong bookings. I was just talking to a representative from one of the airlines, he said it’s been extraordinary, the demand they’re getting,” he told Ross and Russel.
Mr Tehan expects flight prices to fall quickly.
“I think it’s going to be highly competitive again. That might take a little bit of time for them to get the planes on the routes, but I think once they do prices are going to come down,” he said.
