Australian tennis star John Millman says there are a number of factors why COVID-19 vaccine uptake has been slower in tennis than most other sports.

Regardless, he told 3AW he’d like unvaccinated players given the opportunity to compete at the upcoming Australian Open.

Speaking on Sportsday, Millman said around 70 per cent of professional players were now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

“And that number is going up every day,” he said.

Millman said a few factors, not necessarily vaccine opposition, had been behind the slow uptake.

“One of them is that we are in a different country every week,” he said.

“It was very hard to come across the vaccines, especially early.”
