Ashburton Primary School exchanges their Mother’s Day stall for a donation booth

Tom Elliott

Another school has been caught up in a Mother’s Day scandal, swapping out the day for a charitable donation event instead.

Rather than a traditional Mother’s Day stall, Ashburton Primary School has decided to host a charity stall, where students can donate five dollars to a charity and in return receive a small card to give their mum.

3AW Mornings obtained a copy of the Ashburton Primary School newsletter, it reads:

‘Please bring a $5 donation (per child) to school. Your class will visit the stall during the day and you can choose which charity you would like to support on behalf of your Mum or special person.’

On Monday 3AW Mornings broke the news about Moonee Ponds Primary School scrapping the day entirely.

The school quickly back-tracked on their decision when Labor party leader Bill Shorten stepped in.

‘Are these two schools, Moonee Ponds and Ashburton, just out of step with reality? Or is that the way it’s going?’ asked Neil Mitchell.

‘Mothers Day… been nobbled.’
