Anti-vax vandals have caused thousands of dollars worth of damage at a Thornbury cafe.

Bricks were hurled at the window and door, and a death threat letter was left on the front door of Briki Cafe on Hutton Street overnight.

Cafe owner Simos Kandias says it “was a big shock” when he saw the damage this morning.

“The main window … was all shattered, and there’s a massive, massive brick inside,” he told Neil Mitchell.

“The entrance door was all smashed up as well and they left a lovely threatening note on the door, just to say what it’s all about.

“They basically said ‘If you continue to support and follow Daniel Andrews we’re going to burn your cafe down and we’re going to kill you’.”

Mr Kandias says he’s “not extreme either way” politically, and all he’s done is follow the state government’s COVID-19 rules which require customers to be fully vaccinated.

“I’m just following the rules. I’m just doing what I’m expected to do and keeping everyone safe,” he said.

The cafe owner has reported the vandalism to police, but he fears it’ll happen again.

I don’t know what to do. I’m going to have to ask for a bit of assistance from the police,” he said.
