Another top cop departs Victoria Police following ‘slap in the face’ call

A second top cop has been ousted as sweeping changes continue under Acting Chief Commissioner Rick Nugent.

Deputy Commissioner Neil Paterson will depart after being told his contract won’t be renewed, just days after Shane Patton’s dramatic departure.

Retired cop Charlie Bezzina said Mr Nugent’s appointment as Acting Chief would’ve been a “slap in the face” for Mr Paterson.

“Rick Nugent coming back would have been a slap in the face for (Neal Paterson),” he said on 3AW Breakfast.

“It looks like there’s been some infighting, is this going to be the last (departure)? Watch this space I think.”
