One of the Melbourne’s most connected women is the latest name linked to the vacant job as Lord Mayor of Melbourne.

Neil Mitchell believes Anne Peacock, best known as a leading force behind Crown Casino for many years, is considering a tilt at the high-profile job.

“I am told by two sources she is considering standing,” Neil Mitchell said on-air this morning.

3AW Mornings attempted to contact Ms Peacock.

In a text message response, Ms Peacock said “at this stage I have no comment”.

Neil: “That would tend to say to me that it’s right, she is considering it” — click PLAY for full text message

Ms Peacock has a significant background in politics as daughter of former federal Liberal leader Andrew Peacock and former wife of state Liberal party powerbroker Michael Kroger.

Only one person has officially thrown their hat in the ring, with Moreland Councillor Oscar Yildiz declaring his hand on 3AW Drive yesterday.

Two things that came out of last night’s council meeting for me:
1. The findings of the report must be made public.
2. We need to get the right person as Lord Mayor — strong and leading — and we need to do it quickly. There is a lot of rebuilding to do within the council and for the reputation of the city.
