Andrews government pledges royal commission into mental health
The state government has promised a royal commission on mental health if they are re-elected in the upcoming November election.
It’s estimated the Royal Commission would cost $13.2 million, and the terms of reference would be established within the first 100 days of the next parliament.

Mental Health Minister Martin Foley said it was time for the highest level of scrutiny to shine a light on the mental health system.
“We need a royal commission because over the course of our lives, one in two us will have a mental illness,” he told Tom Elliott.
“During the course of 12 months, one in five of us will have a mental illness.
“If we can bring the highest level of invest that our system allows, a Royal Commission, we can start to make the changes to people’s lives and get better return for our investment, and start to both change lives, and save lives.”
