‘An absolute disgrace’: Vietnam veteran disgusted over Shrine protest
Police are in a tense stand-off with protestors at the Shrine of Remembrance in another day of rallies in Melbourne.
Protestors have held a minute silence at the Shrine, they say in honour of suicide victims during the pandemic, and have been chanting “lest we forget”.
Earlier in the day flares were lit outside the Queen Victoria market before they made their way to the Shrine.
Protesters chanting “freedom” and “Lest we Forget” have swamped Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance.
RSL Victoria has condemned the demonstrators saying “it is not appropriate to use this hallowed location for any protest”.

President of the Box Hill RSL and Vietnam war veteran John Howard said he’s appalled with the protestors behaviour.
“I couldn’t give a damn where they protest,” he told Heidi Murphy on 3AW Drive.
“But to protest at a place of remembrance that all veterans revere is an absolute disgrace.”
