Ambulance union responds to tragic report
The Ambulance union says recruitment hasn’t kept up with population growth, leading to a serious shortage of intensive care paramedics.
Up to a third of Melbourne was without MICA coverage on Friday night.
The issue again came to a head last week when a cardiac patient died while waiting 40 minutes for the MICA team to arrive.
“It’s unfortunately a fairly common occurrence,” union boss Danny Hill told 3AW.
He said it was a reflection on the strain being placed on the entire medical system.
