Allan government taken to task over Commonwealth Games ‘bureaucratic incompetency’
A new report released by the auditor-general has found the abandoned Commonwealth Games budget was overstated and the cost to cancel the games was higher than previously revealed.
3AW Drive host, Jacqui Felgate, says it’s another example of bureaucratic incompetency.
“The government exaggerated the cost blow-out that it used to justify scrapping the event,” she said.

Nine News state political reporter, Mark Santomartino, says the report has “finally” given Victorians “conclusive numbers”.
He points out Victorians will have to pay over $589 million for bidding and then withdrawing from the games “with no discernible benefit”.
“It’s that ‘no discernible benefit’, I think is the sticking point there. But for me, it’s more the stuff that came before that,” he said.
