Airline debacles force Melburnians to cancel Gold Coast getaways
Melburnians have been left frustrated and out-of-pocket due to repeated flight cancellations.
Multiple travellers trying to escape the cold for a school holiday Gold Coast getaway have contacted 3AW Mornings after being forced to cancel their trips after being let down by airlines.
Rene Coory was supposed to fly to Brisbane with Jetstar last Monday evening.
His flight was cancelled three days before it was due to depart, so his family rebooked on a flight a day earlier.
But four hours before departure that was cancelled too, and there were no other flights available for three days.
“I’ve been flying for 20 or 30 years for work and different kinds of things and never have I not been able to get to a destination,” he told Heidi Murphy.
Rene and his family has to call off their holiday, but they’re now out of pocket for hotel fees and their return flights, which were with another airline.
Jenny, another Victorian headed for the Gold Coast, was initially booked to fly at 3pm on Friday. Her flight was pushed back, then cancelled and rescheduled early the following day, with a six-hour layover in Sydney.
But half an hour before it was scheduled to take off, that flight was also cancelled, forcing her to call off her trip altogether.
She’s been left out-of pocket after having to pay for accommodation near the airport on Friday evening.
