AFL clarifies the ruling around Jack Higgins’ goal
Jack Higgins’ freakish goal has been given the green light.
Running into the goal mouth, the Tiger forward put the ball into the air, skipped around the post, and kicked the ball over his head for a goal.
It had football fans around the country debating whether or not Higgins’ actions constituted a throw.
AFL umpires boss Hayden Kennedy told 3AW Football it’s such an usual example, it’s not entirely clear.
“It seems as though it’s in the action of attempting to kick,” Kennedy said.
“If you had to ask me for a position, I’d be supporting the umpire’s decision in live vision.”
