AFL CEO launches strong defence of umpires boss following John Setka’s threats
AFL CEO Andrew Dillon has defended umpires boss Stephen McBurney amid a fierce attack from CFMEU head John Setka.
Mr Setka threatened to slow down league construction projects if Mr McBurney – who is a former commissioner of Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC) – was kept in the job.

“He started in his role only quite recently,” the AFL CEO told Tom Elliott on 3AW Mornings.
“He’s had a massive impact and been really good for the AFL and umpires, he’ll be staying at the AFL.”
