AFL boss Gillon McLachlan says women’s games will remain free
AFL boss Gillon McLachlan admits the first round of the new women’s league exceeded all expectations.
More than 50,000 fans took advantage of free entry over the weekend, with the inaugural match at Ikon Park on Friday night a lockout.
Despite the popularity, McLachlan told Neil Mitchell the AFL had no intention of cashing in at the gate.
He said all games would remain free.
‘We’re just trying to build something,’ McLachlan said in his first interview for 2017.
‘There’s such an appetite from the football community, particularly women, who’ve never had the opportunity to play at the elite level.’
