An Afghan refugee who is now a surf instructor in Melbourne has shared his incredible story on 3AW Drive.

Tom Elliott said it was a remarkable journey.

Masi Mobin first left home at the age of 14, determined to get to Australia.

But he and his uncle were arrested as they tried to flee Afghanistan.

He tried again, but this time the boat he was on sunk.

Masi told Tom it was the first time he’d tasted sea water.

Remarkably, he made it to Australia on his third attempt and is now incredibly passionate about surfing.

He runs a business and is making a valuable contribution to his community.
