Aboriginal flag to fly on the West Gate Bridge permanently

The Aboriginal flag will fly permanently on the West Gate Bridge.

The flag has been displayed on the bridge for Reconciliation and NAIDOC weeks since 2019, but when this NAIDOC Week ends on Sunday, it will stay up alongside the Australian flag.

The change comes just weeks after Neil Mitchell called for it.

The Victorian state flag has been taken down to accommodate the change.

Work is underway to determine whether it’s feasible to also fly the Torres Strait Islander and Victorian flags on the bridge.
