‘A very powerful one’: Magnitude 7.3 earthquake rocks Darwin
Northern Australia has been rattled by a powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake which has struck in the Banda Sea in Indonesia.
Nearly two thousand people have reported feeling the tremor around Darwin at about 4am.
9News reporter in Darwin, Jack Hahn says he was jolted awake.
“It’s certainly a very powerful one. I’m in a high rise and it was shaking for one whole minute,” he told Emily Power and Jimmy Bartel, filling in for Ross and Russel.
There is no tsunami threat to Australia.
It’s not yet known if the earthquake caused building damage in Darwin.
