‘A day for the history books’: Victoria bans Nazi swastika
Victoria has become the first state in Australia to ban the Nazi swastika.
But Tom Elliott is concerned it could open the floodgates for banning any flag if a particular group finds it offensive.
Under the new law, intentionally displaying the Nazi swastika in public could lead to fines of almost $22,000, or a year in jail.
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chair of the Anti-Defamation Commission, said it was a proud day for Victorians.
“Today is a day for the history books,” he said.
