RUMOUR CONFIRMED

A 111-year-old regional Victorian football club, which is a chance to win the flag this year, will fold at the end of the season.

The Quambatook Football Club will dissolve at the end of the season due to a lack of young players and volunteers.

President Rhys Carmichael says there just aren’t the juniors needed to keep the team going.

“It’s getting harder and harder to run these small community clubs these days,” he told Ross and Russel.

“Unfortunately we’ve only got I think around two kids around the age of 17, and then below that they’re about four and five, so there’s a huge age gap that we’re missing.

“There’s not the kids in the community that there used to be. The farms are getting bigger and they’re taking less people to run.”
