AFL may seek money for AFLW TV rights
The AFL may go back to it’s television broadcasters to seek a new deal to broadcast AFLW matches.
Speaking on Sportsday, 3AW commentator Caroline Wilson said the success of the women’s competition has stunned everyone.
‘For the first three weeks, it is quadrupling the A-League ratings on Foxtel, they’re going to have to pay.’
Wilson said the broadcast rights for AFLW matches were given away for free.
‘Channel 7 are getting it for free, Fox Footy are getting it for free, this was a two-year deal done in good faith.’
Wilson believes the AFL should seek more money for the TV rights.
‘The games need to cost the networks a bit more if they are going to continue to rate the way they are, and the women are going to have to be paid more.’
