Melbourne has been swamped by thick fog and cloud.

At least seven flights have been cancelled at Tullamarine on Friday morning due to the poor visibility.

It’s understood Avalon Airport is also impacted and its restricting the number of landings.

Departing customers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest information.

The weather bureau says the fog will linger until early afternoon.
