Motorists from Dandenong to Gippsland have confirmed they’ve been left with massive repair bills due to rats eating their cars.

A number of leading insurance agencies have confirmed there’s often a spike in winter as the vermin seek shelter from the cold.

3AW Breakfast caller Karen said she didn’t believe it until her mechanic sent her photographic evidence.

‘The rats were getting underneath the cover when I turned off my car of a night time,’ she told Ross and John.

‘It was nice and warm and they’d got in there and eaten the wiring.’
