Western Bulldogs Tom Boyd and Zaine Cordy suspended by club after altercation while ‘affected by alcohol’
Western Bulldogs pair Tom Boyd and Zaine Cordy have been sanctioned by the club after clashing while ‘affected by alcohol.’
AFL Legend Leigh Matthews labelled the incident embarrassing, but he expects it to blow over fairly quickly.
Matthews says Boyd is the key figure in the altercation, given his high price tag with the club.
‘The big picture of his recruitment, it just brings it back under the microscope again,’ said Matthews on Sports Today.
3AW Football and Herald Sun journalist Michael Warner explained what happened in the incident.
‘It wasn’t a violent punch-up. They’re mates, it was a brief flurry,’ Warner explained.
The club said they are ‘particularly disappointed’ with their million dollar recruit.
They have suspended both from senior selection until the club ‘deems it appropriate’ for them to return.
Boyd has also been fined $5000.
The pair will undergo counselling and apologise to their teammates.
