Neil Mitchell says a television reporter crossed the line of ‘decency and legitimate journalism’ by asking the husband of a missing woman if he killed her.

And a former Victorian Chief Magistrate says he’s ‘horrified’ by it.

A press conference with the family of missing Avondale Heights woman Karen Ristevski was cut short on Thursday when the reporter asked the question.

Police are still searching for the missing mother.

Neil Mitchell said the question, asked by a reporter from Channel 7, was atrocious.

‘It is not the role of the media to be confronting relatives like that,’ the 3AW Mornings host said.

‘It was quite simply wrong.

‘It overstepped the boundaries of decency and legitimate journalism and that is not changed by the outcome of this case is, whatever it is.’

He also took aim at the network for ‘promoting’ the question for its nightly bulletin.

Nick Pappas QC said he was stunned by what had occurred.

‘I was absolutely flabbergasted,’ he told 3AW Mornings.

‘I wasn’t just surprised; I’m horrified a journalist would think that’s a proper question.’
