Victorian government bans fracking, but what’s that mean for your gas bill?
The Andrews Government has slapped a permanent ban on fracking in Victoria.
It follows years of pressure from rural communities and the Greens over the controversial gas extraction.
A moratorium on conventional onshore gas will also be extended for another four years.
But what’s that mean for your gas bill?
Neil Mitchell tried to find out on Tuesday.
Simon Breheny, director of policy at the Institute of Public Affairs, said prices would continue to rise unless an alternative energy source was found.
‘The problem is we don’t currently have an alternative,’ he said.
