A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being found in a gutter in Melton this morning.

Police believe the man in his thirties has been the victim of an alleged hit-run.

He was found in a gutter on West Melton Drive at about 1.20am on Wednesday. 

He was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with head injuries where he remains in a serious condition.

Police say a 22-year-old Melton South man has handed himself in to police in relation to the incident. 

No charges have been laid.
