A Bundoora couple has been fined nearly $70,000 for operating an illegal tanning salon.

It’s the first prosecution since solariums were banned in 2015.

Clare Zahre and Tropical Sun Industries were charged with operating a commercial tanning practice from a business and from a Bundoora home following raids in August and October last year.

Her partner Jason was also charged with breaking seals on tanning units which had been applied to prevent their use.
