Questions surrounding the Hawks

Reports have emerged today that Hawthorn’s four-time premiership champion Jordan Lewis has been disgruntled with the club following a conversation with coach Alastair Clarkson.

It is believed the conversation was similar to that of the one between Clarkson and Sam Mitchell, which was explained as a ‘friend to friend’ discussion about the possibility of Mitchell moving clubs.

Mitchell seems all but certain to be leaving the Hawks for West Coast, and on the back of that it is now highly likely that Lewis will stay.

However that isn’t to say he was not upset with being asked to consider changing clubs. The club most likely to gain Lewis’ services was Melbourne.

3AW Sports Today host Dwayne Russell does not believe the club has handled the situation well. Russell compared it to the way North Melbourne saw off their veterans, including Brent Harvey, earlier this year which drew criticism.

‘North with its mid season honesty is not looking so bad right now if this storm has some substance to it,’ Russell said.

There are many questions still to be answered with the latest news surrounding Hawthorn, but the club maintains the view that Lewis is a ‘contracted and required player’.

Speaking on Sports Today, Dwayne Russell raised the question whether Josh Gibson, Luke Hodge and Shaun Burgoyne were also approach by the Hawks coach.

One of the many questions yet to be answered.

Scoop McClure says there’s reason for concern at the club.

‘Whatever has happened at Hawthorn, clearly it’s not all good.’

Hawthorn has been the most active club at the trade table so far, introducing Tyrone Vickery and Tom Mitchell to the club and actively seeking Gold Coast midfielder Jaeger O’meara.

Bradley Hill has departed for the Dockers.
