Former footballer Brendon Goddard said it would “disappointing” if Harley Bennell left the game after another off-field incident over the weekend.

The 26-year-old Fremantle forward was asked to leave the Ocean Beach Hotel in Perth on Sunday night for being too intoxicated.

Dockers head of football Peter Bell recently said Bennell was on his last warning at the club following a string of off-field indiscretions in recent years.

Goddard told Sportsday he expected coach Ross Lyon to support Bennell while questioning his behaviour at the same time.

“I like Harley and I’ve asked Ross (Lyon) what he’s like,” he said.

“We played Fremantle (in 2017) when Harley made his comeback and I told him not to be a wasted talent to the game.

“It sounds like there isn’t an issue with his training, it’s clearly the personal stuff in his life that’s affecting him.

“There is definitely a feeling that it’s a wasted talent.”
