Former Shadow Attorney General John Pesutto says he does want to remain in politics, after vote counting shows he is unable to win his former seat of Hawthorn.

John Kennedy, a 71-year-old former school principal is 173 votes ahead of Pesutto in the seat of Hawthorn, which Labor has not held the seat since 1955.

Neil Mitchell asked Mr Pesutto whether this defeat signals the end of his political career.

“I have an elaborate plan Neil, to come back to politics, I just haven’t worked out the what, the how, the when or the where,” he sai.d.

“I certainly want to consider, whether something presents itself.

He also wouldn’t rule out stepping in for Matthew Guy in the seat of Bulleen, if Guy were not to see out his four year term.

“I genuinely wouldn’t (rule it out), I just don’t know what’s going to happen in the future,” he said.
