Chris Dawson arrested and expected to be charged over his wife’s murder
Chris Dawson has been arrested and will be charged over the 1982 murder of his wife, Lynette Dawson.
The 70-year-old was arrested on the Gold Coast on Wednesday morning and taken to Southport Police Station.
The case has been brought back to light following the hugely successful crime podcast The Teacher’s Pet, produced by The Australian.
Mother-of-two Lyn Dawson was last seen on Sydney’s northern beaches 36-years-ago.
The former rugby league player allegedly moved his teenage lover into the family’s Bayview home just days after Lyn went missing.
Addressing the media this morning, NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said additional evidence uncovered in the investigation has been key to the arrest.
“They were predominantly statements from witnesses that helped us tie pieces of the puzzle together,” he said.
Commissioner Fuller says they won’t give up on trying to identify Lyn’s whereabouts but locating her remains isn’t crucial to finalising the matter.
Police have spoken to Lyn Dawson’s family this morning, who are “relieved”.
